Homemade Laundry Detergent

With a family of 5 buying cleaning products like shampoo, soap, and laundry detergent can get expensive.  Not to mention one of my children has extremely sensitive skin.  So I started to make my own laundry detergent.  At first it didn’t really work out well.  I use a front loading washing machine and I like to wash my clothes on cold so it was a bummer to find that many recipes I found online did not dissolve completely in the cold water!  It took me a couple years but I have finally come up with a recipe that I am happy with, is super affordable, and cleans and maintenance my family’s clothes!
I like to make it my the large batches and then leave it in an air tight container near my washing machine.  This way I only have to make laundry detergent about 2 times a year!

You will need

1 Lg box Baking soda — $2.24

1 Lg box Super Washing Soda — $3.97

½ Lg box 20 Mule Borax — $1.99

½ container of Versatile Oxi-Clean — $3.78

½ container Biz –$2.99

1 bar Johnson & Johnson Baby Soap grated–$ 3.33

1 Lg container scent crystals (optional)

1 Large air tight container

Only 1/4 cup per load.  Depending on the size of the load and how soiled the laundry is.

Total cost for ½ year of detergent = 18.33

Total for one year of detergent = 36.60
The recipe above is for 1/2 a years worth for my family of 5!
Also if you grate the soap finely your detergent will still be a fine powder!
